Game Characters that are public domain (Mainly if your looking for villains or monsters tbh)

Null - The very same one from Baldi's Basics, Declared public domain thanks to an official ARG
; the only caveats are that you cannot use his assets or sounds that are directly from Baldi's Basics itself, and you cannot base his appearance, voice or mannerisms on mystman12 himself.

Polybius - This urban legend tells of a space shooter game that appeared in the arcades of Portland, Oregon in the 80s. The gameplay caused intense side effects - amnesia, hallucinations, even deaths - but it was so addictive that dozens of players lined up for a chance to play, until mysterious men in black abruptly wheeled every cabinet out of arcades - and that was the last anyone had seen of the deadly game

Missingno/M - The infamous glitch Pokémon from Pokémon Red and Blue, found off the coast of Cinnabar Island and able to mass-duplicate your items should you catch it. This is a weird case because Missingno's sprite is treated as similar to AI art, where it is automatically public domain in most places (except the UK and Hong Kong) because it was made by a machine (as a glitch in the code).  Even We Bare Bears used the sprite in an episode onceNaming it Missingno might be questionable (although it has been referenced in the likes of Binding of Isaac and Vampire Survivors without issue), but you could get away with calling it M, the name of a near-identical glitchmon, as it's only a letter. However, you of course can't call it a Pokémon, use sprites that infringe on copyright (so no skeletal Aerodactyl/Kabutops or Lavender Town Ghost), or use its cry from the games, which is from Male Nidoran.

The Wumpus - Not to be confused with Discord's mascot, this Wumpus is the main monster of Hunt the Wumpus, said to be one of the earliest horror games. It involves you, a hunter, entering the Wumpus' cave to catch it with your magic arrows, while also avoiding bottomless pits and "super bats" big enough to carry you around. The Wumpus itself is not given a definite appearance due to the game being text-based; all we know is that it is too big to be carried by super bats, it has suckers on its feet that let it cling to solid surfaces (so it cannot fall in pits), it usually sleeps unless awoken by your approach or the sound of an arrow, and it eats hunters who provoke it. Among other things, it has appeared on Magic the Gathering cards.

The Rook - The overarching villain of the now-defunct MMO game Glitch (by the company who later created Slack), The Rook was the game's raid boss; a horrid corvid who would scrape and peck holes in your screen, drain colour from the world, and weaken nearby animals. Since Glitch had no combat, you could only fend off The Rook (temporarily) by giving offerings to shrines and doing good deeds. All of Glitch's assets and locations were released under a CC0 (fancy way to say public domain) license a long time ago, including those of The Rook, in the wake of its shutdown.

Lilithe Blightchaser - Originating from the now-defunct card game Duelyst, whose entire art and source code was also released under CC0, Lilithe is of the demonic Abyssian Host faction, whose goal is aggressive world domination, and a major member at that due to being a General

Daisy - The murderer of the whodunnit-inspired adventure game Mystery House for the Apple II, also considered one of the first horror games, and made by Sierra On-Line, which would be known for making King's Quest and Space Quest. Driven by greed after hearing of secret treasure in the titular house, she murders the other guests one by one, but is ultimately shot dead by the player character. She is described as a blond woman who is a cook, and her weapon of choice is a knife.
