Best Adelaide noodles?

Cold weather and tight budgets makes street noodles for lunch a good option.

Nothing better than a big plate/bowl of smoky noodles for lunch — pad thai, char kway teow, hokkien noodles, drunken noodles, satay noodles etc.

What’s everyone’s favourite noodle dish or noodle spot in Adelaide at the moment?

My go to when I can get there is Char Kway Teow at Lai’s Pantry on Hanson road.

What is Kate’s darkest song?

One that unsettles you.

Mine is ‘Breathing’ - sung from the perspective of an unborn baby in the womb during a nuclear fallout. Chilling.

What’s your pick for best bakery in Adelaide/South Australia… and what’s the one item you always get?

Perrymans for me. One of the few places where I walk in planning to buy one thing and leave with four. Love their vanilla slice and chunky steak pepper pie.

Can be anything — takeaway, hidden hole-in-the-wall, market stall, late-night spot, pub meal, food truck etc. Just one place and what you order there that we should know about.

I love a good pho for lunch and enjoy it at least once per week. My favourite is Adelaide City Snack bar on Angas street. (A little obscure I know) Rare beef pho with fresh cut chilli. Clears out the sinuses and gets me feeling good again. Where would you recommend? What is the best pho you have had in Adelaide?

Been deep diving into Hounds of Love lately (1985, her 5th album, made when she was 27 and had full creative control in her own studio).

What’s your favourite track on the album and why?

Do you lean more towards the hits (Running Up That Hill, Hounds of Love), or the deep cuts in the Ninth Wave suite?

Would be great to hear what song resonates with you and what you hear in it that others might have missed.

I’ve noticed lately that Chat GTP is just making up responses to keep me happy. Today I asked it to let me know if Kate Bush had written any songs specifically about her father. It replied with a depth detailed description about a song that I was pretty sure had never been written. I asked it to check for accuracy if that song actually existed and got this apology. “You’re right to call that out. I got it wrong and gave you a made-up Kate Bush song title. That’s not good enough, especially after you’d already pushed me on accuracy”. What has changed? (I pay for the subscription model)

And more importantly — why is your #1 your #1?

Kate’s catalogue is such a mix of styles and eras, I’m curious what people connect with most.

I’ll go first:

The Dreaming

Hounds of Love

Never for Ever (with Kick Inside just behind)

The Dreaming is #1 for me — it’s the point where you can hear she just went all in creatively.

Not the easiest listen, but nothing else sounds like it. Pull Out the Pin and Leave It Open still to this day sound completely unique.

Gets better every time I come back to it.

She has written some of the most poetic and beautiful lyrics — honestly a a treasure trove to pick from.

Mine:

“You must lose me like an arrow shot into the killer storm”

What’s yours?

I just stumbled on a great Kate Bush cover (Suspended in Gaffa by Ra Ra Riot) and it got me hearing Kates beautiful song from The Dreaming album with a renewed appreciation. What other cover songs have I missed? I’m going to create a playlist based on your responses. Thanks in advance.
