2 Capricorns have a Leo almost 5 year old, send help.

No seriously, it is intense.

He is the most amazing kid I’ve ever met and so smart and such a great little showman and so creative and can be impossibly charming and fun.

AND

He has such strong reactions and feelings and likes to push our buttons endlessly and always cries at the slightest boundary or rule because it’s either his way or the highway and if he decides on something it is almost impossible to talk sense into him and every morning is a huge struggle because he actually cares about what T-shirt to wear and what shoes (I thought I could still pick whatever for him but nooooooo)

I don’t know.. this Capricorn mom is (and her cap husband) are struggling.

(Also we have an 8.5 month old who is a Leo too hahaha)

I have an 8.5 month old and he is so uninterested in food. .. actually it actively makes him mad .

I thought it would change by now but anything that makes it past his lips is immediately pushed out other than strawberries and pears.

I tried different times , like after nursing or before nursing or at the middle of the day vs evening.. we have family meals in the evenings and his 4.5 year old brother and all of us try to model happy eating .. he just spits things out , gets fussy, bangs his plate and smushes bits of food into his eyes and ears and hair.

We tried all the veggies in both purée and appropriate forms roasted/.steamed , we tried avocado mashed and covered in hemp hearts or natural ..

We tried omelette strips or mashed eggs

We tried natural yoghurt

We tried even the same seasoned salted food we eat at the table

We tried pouches from the store

We tried steaks and strips of chicken

We tried pancakes and little handheld patties of spinach and other things

I just feel defeated because no matter what he shows very little interest and I caught myself putting in so much less effort these days (and I was already not very high effort about it compared to how I was when I had only one kid - my 4.5 year old was gobbling up so much food from 5.5 months)

Between his lack of interest and us absolutely feeling burnt out and just done with the 4.5year olds dinner and lunch antics (this has been the hardest age yet - jealousy might be playing a part. Ugh) I almost want to stop making stuff for him and just offer whatever we’re eating since it’s all going to end up on the floor anyway.

It’s stressing me out .. please help me with ideas or solidarity or encouragement -I’d be so grateful.

TLDR: my 8.5 month old is high sleep needs and still on 3 naps. I don’t love the 9pm bedtime and wish we could do 2 naps with earlier bedtime but I’m scared of earlier snooze feed or morning wake up.

Little guy is a very decent sleeper. He has always been super easy with crib transfers and even managed to go to sleep all on his own a bunch of times. We haven’t formally trained yet. It ain’t broke so I haven’t tried to fix it (don’t hate me my first baby was nothing like this haha.)

Generally he self soothes back to sleep whenever he wakes up before 6am and I only feed him when he calls out after 6am. We usually manage to snooze after that feed till 7:30 or a bit later.

I’ve asked before on this sub but we never managed to extend his awake windows to the common 3/3/4 .. he gets super fussy and just starts sucking on his thumb and putting himself to sleep. So he is still on 3 naps.

His sleep more often than not will go like this:

  • 7:30am wake up
  • 9:45 m nap 1 (1.5 hours on average sometimes 2)
  • 2:15 pm nap 2 (45 mins or so)
  • 5:30pm nap 3 (40 mins, sometimes less)
  • ~9pm bedtime

2.25/2.75/2.5/~3

(I hope I’m getting that right)

He genuinely sleeps pretty well but I’d LOVE for him to drop to two naps and I would be willing to work with him through a fussy extra 30 - 60 mins here and there HOWEVER my BIGGEST fear is that if we switch to two naps we’re going to have earlier days and earlier snooze feeds.

Have you seen earlier starts to the day once you did earlier bedtime ? Or an earlier demand for that snooze feed?

I had a really low sleep needs sleep fighter for my first kid and this second is such a good sleeper I’m so scared to change anything.

Worried I’m jinxing it as I type this haha

I like these jeans but I’m seeing them get looser. I don’t love the feeling of tight jeans (I’m a mom with two kids and need to move around) but I’m wondering if these look a bit frumpy? They don’t fall off my hips (I have wider hips) but I am wondering if they’re doing anything for me.

First photo is 7 months , second one is 4 years and 7 months.

They started out more blue as a baby and they definitely look more like green now in person.
