Issues upgrading to 1.6Gbps as an existing customer – Has anyone tried this workaround?
I’m currently on a 900Mbps plan with my contract ending in April 2027. I can't upgrade to 1.6Gbps via the website or customer service. The only way seems to be registering with a new email and placing a fresh order. This allows me to select the 1.6Gbps speed, and Openreach would come to install new cabling.
Can I place the new order, then cancel it within the 14-day cooling-off period, and somehow use that to trigger an upgrade on my existing 900Mbps contract?
If I install the new 1.6Gbps line and then cancel my current 900Mbps plan, I’ll face a £280 exit fee. However, the new 1.6Gbps deal is only £33/month, and I'd get a £100 voucher. What do you guys think? Any advice would be much appreciated!

I’ve just signed up for a new 1.6G deal through a cashback site for £33 a month, and the installation is set for the 26th. Right now, I’m on a 900MB plan that costs £50 and doesn't run out until April 2027. Once the new line is in, if I call customer service, can they just merge my old contract into the new one without charging me a cancellation fee? And if they do, will I be paying the £33 rate or the £50 one? Thanks for the help!
