Progressive refusing to provide auto quote without confirmed purchase date?

Hey everybody, I just got off the phone with a Progressive agent and am a little baffled. I guess I'm looking for some assurance that this interaction was out of the norm. Or, if it wasn't, then I'd like to just vent. 😄

Context: I currently have a joint homeowners/auto policy with Progressive that's been active maybe 6 years or so. It's been middling but adequate service, no claims whatsoever and constantly rising premiums, yadda yadda yadda.

I am in the process of buying a new vehicle -- just put down a deposit but don't have a confirmed delivery date because the car is in transit to the dealership and they could only provide me with a two-week range. Before finalizing the purchase I want to make sure that the insurance premium won't be outlandish. I have the VIN so figured that would be enough to get a quote started.

The agent I spoke to pushed me for a specific date in order to generate a quote, even after I explained that I don't have a date -- I have a two-week window that is subject to change. He then said he couldn't help me (in a rather combative tone, tbh) when I repeated that I was unable to give him a date beyond the second half of June. Is this normal? I don't plan to stay with Progressive after this because it seems absurd and I have no loyalty to a company that has reaped far more benefit from me than I have from it. I understand that altering the start date of the policy could result in a small change to the quote, and I'm okay with that. But to not be able to provide a quote at all?
