TLDR: Do extra homework before you buy the Galaxy books and Samsung care+, or maybe just don’t buy it.
2 years ago I bought Samsung Galaxybook 4 Ultra. While seeing multiple posts about screen self cracking, I bought it anyway. I thought, “I won’t be the one,” and figured purchasing Samsung Care+ (which I later found out was only Samsung Care+ Essential) would keep me safe.
Everything was great except some software glitch that sometimes happens due to Samsung’s system plugins.
Then, last July, I closed the lid and heard a loud, clear popping sound. Oops. Turns out, it happened to me eventually : a long hairline crack appeared right across the glass.
I didn’t do anything about it right away, and I deeply regret it. I should have taken pictures of the entire laptop right then to prove the crack wasn’t from a drop. But I really needed my laptop at the time, and since I had insurance, I figured I could just get it fixed later. As the expiration date for my coverage approached, I finally sent it in.
And then the expiration date of my insurance approached so I sent it in to fix it.
One week after I shipped it, I received a text saying my claim was canceled. When I called Samsung to find out why, they claimed the crack was due to "physical damage" because there was some minor scuffing/dirt on two of the corners, meaning it wasn't covered. However, those marks are on the completely opposite side of the crack. How could that possibly cause the screen to crack?
Then the representative said I could pay for $99 to extend my warranty and I could get both my case and glass fixed for no extra charge, of course, I agreed.
Ten days later, I received a quote for $900 to get my laptop fixed. When I called Samsung again, they completely went back on the promise they made just a week prior. They explained that my insurance was actually "Samsung Care+ Essential" and wouldn't cover this type of damage. And that was it, either pay the $900 out of pocket to get it fixed, or they’ll ship it back to me for free.
So what I am saying is, don’t think you won’t be the one, because one day you will be.
