For me it has been who let him cultivate. Starts simply without grandiose prose, just slowly adds details but remains firmly as a comedy, then you look back after half the story is done and notice that you have read about secrets spanning mysteries millennia ago. It was quite fun.
I did like the chicken while reading it, but once I finished book 1 it felt kind of mid. You could feel the author trying hard to make mc and his life nonchalant and disconnected from the worldly chaos. The author did succeed in that to some extent, I didn't feel it was all that good.
Any story that isn't too heavily mired in misery or mystery? I loved lord of mysteries but want something fun and easy like the one I mentioned.
I more or less read chinese translated wuxia or xianxia novels and have found some great ones. My favourite one among them is Lord of Mysteries. It has a deep world building and an interesting plot which I like. If asked about prog fan, I would say that one is a must read.
On the same line of thought, I want to check what novels do you consider as must reads/ one of a kind/ the ones that left you with melancholy for weeks after ending/ the ones which makes you look back in nostalgia when you were reading them etc. I will try reading them.
I have read scant few proper fantasy novels (lotr, harry potter, partially hunger games, first book of malazan, 2 series of Discworld). The movie excluded the scene in the lotr about Goldbery was one of the things that felt unique for me.
What are yours?
Edit - any genre is fine. As long as it's awesome enough.
