Any ways to style rat tails other than braids

Any ways to style rat tails other than braids

I'm growing out my hair so I can get rat tails(similar to the pick though it'll probably be a bit more wavy/messy) but I'm wondering if there are anyways to style these other than braids? I've only ever seen people to braids and while it's really cute and I'm excited to braid my hair I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas? Mostly because I know I might not have the time every day to braid my hair and it would be good to know I have a backup

So far I've thought of
-half up half down with the tails wrapped around a small ponytail(I'm already pretty good at this so it shouldn't take me long)
-just loose
-wrapped with a string or ribbon

Is this wavy or just normal?

QUICK NOTE, when I say normal I don't mean straight hair I'm asking if hair curling up when wet like in the first pic is something everyone's hair does regardless of hair type. Obviously straight hair isn't 'normal' or anything but this was the only way I could think to phrase this

Anyways, first pic is me a bit after a shower and second pic is a few weeks ago maybe two days after my hair was last wet just to see the difference
