Had to switch device to new car—extended for 6 months?? Any advice?
Hi all,
I’m in TN. Got my Intoxalock device March of 2025, hail storm destroyed my car in May of 2025. Took several weeks of emailing between insurance, Intoxalock and the state but eventually got approved for a toll period to take it off and put it on my new car.
The issue was to buy my new car, I needed to take it off the original car, turn it in for the insurance money, then use that money to buy new car. So I didn’t have the new car with me the same day they initially took it off.
The device was only off my car for about a week, and I have documents showing that it was removed August 30 and replaced September 11th.
I was informed of the extended 90 day period that came with the toll period, so I was expecting to get the device removed in June, but now they’re trying to hold me to the September 11th lease date? Even though I had had the device for six months by then?
Throughout this period, I have also had no violations (no missed or failed tests, no lockouts, always calibrated on time, etc).
Does anyone know if there’s anything I can do? My probation officer will try to help but she says Intoxalock is impossible to work with and I have little luck communicating with them. Is there a work around with the state somehow, or something I can do?
Again, I have documents that show the device was only off of my vehicle for 12 days total.
