How do you interpret the lyrics to the chorus of Heart and Soul?:

"Heart and soul, one will burn."

Does Ian mean:

either the heart or the soul will burn? Or,
is "one" used as a third-person pronoun, as in, "Heart and soul, you (one) will burn"?

I'm curious what people think he means in context.
