Who pays Lex Fridman's salary? His official title is Research Scientist, but he doesn't publish and doesn't even live in MA
One thing I've wondered for a long time is how Lex Fridman can remain a research scientist. The bare minimum for a PI to fund someone out of grants is that they must work on the grant at least a little bit, but it's hard to see how this can be the case for Fridman. He lives in Texas and seemingly does no research. There are titles like Research Associate that allow someone to retain and email and are unpaid, but Research Scientist carries an implication of actively doing research and being paid from a grant.
Someone is paying him every month and is periodically certifying that he does research on the project that funds him. Who? The whole thing seems very sketchy to me.
