Color matching naturally aged 50 year old caning on a sofa restoration project
Bought this sofa from fb marketplace with pretty bad damage to the cane webbing.
Had to remove the entire panel and replace it with a new pre-woven cane sheet, which comes very light in color. After experimenting with a few different products, I was able to almost perfectly color match it by using a product by Mohawk called Tone Finish Toner which comes in a spray can. I used the shade Statesman Oak.
Was very satisfied with the result! I love how aged caning looks so I’ve always been intimidated by buying pieces with damage since replacement means adding new caning which has little character when it’s so light.
The last photo is how the sofa originally looked when I purchased it, was the best photo I could find in my album.
