No Dykem marks on upper barrel lugs during fitting?

Working through fitting an island barrel/slide setup and wanted to sanity check where I am in the process.

I originally had some odd lockup behavior and was seeing Dykem marks on the upper barrel lugs, mostly on the left side. I eventually realized the extractor was contacting the side of the barrel and likely biasing things. With the extractor removed the barrel now goes smoothly into and out of lockup with no sticking or “pop.”

At this point, however, I am no longer seeing any Dykem transfer/marking on the upper barrel lugs at all. I have not fit the lower lugs yet and am only evaluating slide/barrel fitment at this stage.

Is it normal to see essentially no upper lug contact before lower lug fitting/camming geometry is established? Or should I still be expecting at least some contact marks at this point?

Thanks for any input.

Made some progress on my Infinity island barrel/slide fit — the barrel now goes fully into lockup.

Here is my next issue: when in battery, the top of the island rib sits slightly proud of the slide at an angle (not perfectly parallel with the slide top).

Looking for guidance on the best way to address that:

  • What’s the recommended process for bringing the rib flush with the slide?
  • Is this something that can be done cleanly with hand tools (stone/surface plate), or is this really a machining operation?

Thanks for any input!

Working on fitting an island barrel/slide set from Infinity and could use a sanity check from those with more experience.

As received, the island portion of the barrel fits well at the muzzle end of the slide and against the rear of the island channel. However, the barrel won’t quite go fully into battery — it looks like the hood is about .001–.002" too long.

My plan is to remove a small amount from the rear of the hood to allow full seating. Before I do that, I want to confirm:

  • Is that the correct approach for this situation?
  • Will shortening the hood slightly negatively affect the island fit at the front of the slide/channel?

My assumption is the hood is just preventing the barrel from moving forward into full lockup, but I want to make sure I’m not overlooking something and risking a loss of front-end fit.

Thanks for any input!
