Omg I just finished s1&2 for the 1st time and I am incredibly impressed with this show.

This is one of the best shows i have EVER seen. I enjoy the writing so much, especially the plot. It's really good how they write the plot so far, it seems that they really know why the audience loves this show. I love the twists and turns and how new storylines evolve naturally from existing storylines. I love all the action and intense physical drama, it's basically like watching an action thriller like Salt. I grew up on dutch House of Anubis (the original dutch version Het Huis Anubis) so I really dig the whole treasure / legends scavenger hunt thing!

Don't get me started on the dialogue, it's so natural and realistic. I really enjoy Ward and Rafe as villains. I love Sarah as a character too because I can relate so much to her avoidant attachment issues, and I love to see a female character with this on screen because usually it's the male characters with problems like that.

I like the addition of Cleo, I was thinking where has she gone so I like that she is back because I LOVE hearing her accent lol. At first I saw promotional photos of this other chick with the group and was like oh she's gonna be some new boring classmate they force into the group but it feels like a very natural addition.

The soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous so that makes the whole thing even more enjoyable! I love how they kept bringing back the north star motif and how it was symbolic of Sarah's character.

SPOILER WARNING:

I did however hate the ending with John B's dad still alive. All shows do this eventually but I would have liked them to have waited with this for like 3 more seasons. But whatever.

I'm scared because I'm gonna watch s3 now. I like that they are stuck on an island but I hope it's still somewhat enjoyable.

Recommendations for similar shows/movies:

Veronica Mars (2004) this show is VERY similar and SO GOOD! Don't sleep on this.

Revenge (2011)

Pretty Little Liars (2010) some similar characters and teen drama + good mystery/twists/turns/secrets

Het Huis Anubis (original House Of Anubis)

The O.C.

Rocket Power lol

Pirates of The Caribbean (2003): These movies are so similar. Pirates searching for treasures with a compass. Sarah = Elizabeth Swann, John B = Will Turner, Topper = James Norrington, JJ = Jack Sparrow lol

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (videogame) set in the swamps/bayou of Louisiana reminds me of OBX too. Ward even says "Welcome to the family" like the iconic Jack Baker line. Rafe and Lucas are basically the same psychopathic/bad seed brother character. It's a survival game where Ethan goes into their huge mansion to save his girlfriend Mia. I feel like this game was an inspiration for sure.

Into The Blue (2005) The same but basically as a 2000s movie

Riviera (2017) soap opera / greek tragedy type show with a lot of action scenes in Europe. It's very different but you might like it

The soundtrack of this show reminds me of the soundtrack of Revenge (2011) Anyone else?

Especially the Royal Merchant track by Fil Eisler. It's the low chello sound effects or something. Does anyone else have this?

This show is really scratching my classic teen drama itch. I'm so incredibly impressed with it. The dramatic scenes, the family dynamics, the dialogue that feels so natural and well written. How it's not tacky and trashy, the grey area villains, the mystery plot, etc. Love it!

The show itself and the soundtrack reminds me so much of Revenge, an ABC drama from 2011. This show is criminally underrated and has similar vibes. Season 1 of Revenge is some of the best tv ever.

Does anybody know Chase Stokes ethnicity? I mean he's white/caucasian but he is obvi mixed

It's always so annoying when googling an actor who is clearly mixed and it just says they are white. I'm so curious. he kind of looks asian a little bit. Or maybe native american and that's why he doesnt say it? It's the same thing with Madelyn Cline she looks mixed as well even though it says white but i read she is part native american.... i don't get why they won't just openly say it....

Just started watching OBX, and it reminds me SO MUCH of Revenge(2011) & The O.C. (Caption)

I love this show so much! I am a 1996 girlie and this really feels like a 2000s tv show. I love how the storyline is LITERALLY like Pirates Of The Caribbean, but in a teen drama jacket like the O.C. and Revenge. I literally laughed out loud when they said they were looking for a compass. Very nostalgic. I love how it's a classic teen drama with: class divide romance, a mystery plotline, the parents being characters & being involved in the (mystery) storyline. It has all the classic elements of a good teen drama reminiscent of the golden age of television, the 2000s. It's such a unique mix of elements, just like the setting is new and fresh too!

Why it reminds me of other tv shows:

Revenge (2011): An amazing tv series that aired on ABC. It's set in the affluent Hamptons (beach town) and it also has the same rich/poor divide, and the characters become entangled and intertwined across the divide. There is secrets, corruption, plottwists and revenge for something the rich people did wrong. I really recommend this if you want something similar! Obviously the characters are different (except for the Cameron family) and the storyline too, but the tropes & vibes are the same. The soundtrack of OBX reminded me of Revenge as well.

The O.C. also has the same rich/poor seperation and the party scenes of the beach and the fight reminded me of this show, they literally have a similar scene like that.

I really recommend Veronica Mars as well if you like this show! That is a CRIMINALLY underrated show.

It also kind of reminded me of Pretty Little Liars, the Cameron family especially. I'm a sucker for teen dramas with a mystery plotline and that show also has it! I just LOVE the rich dad of one of the main characters being a villain and involved in the main mystery trope. What do you guys think of my recommendations, did you also think of these shows? Do you agree with me or disagree?
