The issue with "Designated dog feeding points".
Logically it makes sense, it controls food waste and littering - adds a a layer of organization onto the act of feeding stray dogs.
But it ignored a pretty major factor - dogs are territorial. they don't care about "designated feeding spots" being shared with other dogs which aren't welcome in that territory. The consequences of this are brutal and something I witness daily.
I live in a pretty upscale society where there's been a recent crackdown on dog feeding owing to complaints from residents. (its a separate matter that the complaints weren't even due to dog biting but dogs barking at night and disturbing sleep type issues - none of the dogs here bite people).
So anyway the designated feeding point here is about 500m from our part of the society, but I know for a fact there are 3 pretty strong strays which live in that area - and aggressively fight off any strays from neighboring areas trying to go there. same with the other designated feeding spot.
what this means is that the strays in our area don't have anywhere to go get food from.
on top of that, they've started fining people for feeding dogs - there are some kind people, and especially some Koreans who used to regularly feed the dogs but now they're stopped - there's only about 40 apartments in this part of the society and about 3-4 vocal anti-dog activists - this is enough for the rest of us to just not have the energy left to fight.
over the past weeks I have seen the dogs in our area get progressively weaker and skinnier by the day - whenever I get the chance I try to give them whole eggs boiled, I have also seen some other neighbors feeding them but when they see me they run away like they're afraid I'll complain - I hope to talk to them and sort of find some support since im glad there's others who also feel for these poor dogs.
I simply dont understand how some people can be okay with letting living beings starve right before their eyes - is your sleep so important? you live here - just get sound proof windows or something. and one of these guys I know just literally hates dogs, even when im walking my pet and we cross paths, he'll act weird "uhh beta wait, isko door rakho mujhse, mujhe allergy hai" and he'll say this shit when im standing 20 feet away from him it's so weird. every single time.
anyway, I worry for these dogs - a pretty popular influencer lives in our society, not in our specific pocket but she is known to come feed dogs, it makes me happy, but I don't think this is consistent at all. I don't have the energy to fight.
