I’ve had SMP for 6 years and I’ve touched it up 2 years ago. I find that no matter what it always fades to a blue-grey colour. It still looks pretty good regardless most people can’t tell and ask me why I don’t just grow my hair out because it looks like I have a full head of hair. If I wait another 5 years I’m sure it’ll start looking blue again. I’ll be 35 by then. SMP helped me get over that harsh sudden sting of the “horseshoe” hairstyle I’ve had since I was 25. However there’s still a few things on the flip side I did not enjoy about having SMP.

  1. If I look at it really close I can personally tell it’s a tattoo. It’s not because “I know I have it” I’m an intelligent person, I’m confident that it doesn’t look totally convincing up close.
  2. The notion that from a social distance no one can tell. Sure, that’s great. But in my mind knowing anyone who gets close enough can possibly tell, gives me anxiety. In 6 years ONE person (and my lifestyle I see a lot of people) a stranger, noticed and told me my hair looks like a tattoo.
  3. I’m terrified of how I’ll get rid of it eventually.

If I let it fade naturally, exfoliate and let the sun do its work… I’m worried it’ll turn blue, fade unevenly or start to look bad/unnatural. I also hear that you CAN’T do it yourself, you have to laser your head. I already can’t believe I actually let someone tattoo my head, nonetheless laser it now…

My questions:

  1. What’s the best way to remove it? Several laser sessions, exfoliate, both?
  2. Do we all turn blue eventually? There’s no way we can just keep getting touch ups indefinitely, who’s gonna go over the same dots exactly right? We’ll over saturate our heads and inevitably need to laser them off.
  3. The person who did my SMP told me a whole bunch of lies like I need a touch up once every year. I feel like she wanted to oversaturate my head so she can get more money. She also always told me she had limited bookings to seem busy but I was always able to last minute change my appointment. Is that shady? I feel like we were all lied to on so many things. I feel like I no longer trust thing industry because I keep getting all of these different “facts” from people. Does anyone else feel this way?
  4. I am definitely not getting another touch up or a different hair solution. I’m good with being bald at this point. Have I urged you to not get SMP done? Because if you ask my opinion, I would say no don’t do it.
