I finally fell in love with Double Infinity

This is just a small post meant to go out into the void and then disappear.

I listen to a lot of Big Thief, between band and solo releases, my top album and top few songs for the past several years have been from her body of work.

When Double infinity was slowly released, I was really excited and listened to them quite a bit. I love the album name, the album cover, but the music was't sinking its hooks in, even after a dozen or so listens.

So I put the album down, and just kind of avoided it, sticking to her previous body of work.

Some time has passed since I did that. I was in spotify today and came across a general Big Thief playlist and decided to put it on. It was a little unusual because I generally listen to albums start to finish, or occasionally a single song that I am in the mood for.

I'm so glad I did this. A few songs into the playlist Incomprehensible came on and something just clicked. I immediately played it twice in a row, then put the full Double Infinity alblum on and was completely swept away. The complexity of the instruments, her teetering voice. How could I not hear these in previous listens??

I don't know why this one took a while to grow on me, but I am so glad it has.

Hi, I'm not sure if this falls under self-promo, so feel free to remove if needed. This is a tool I built for myself that I thought might be useful to some others. I has and will never have ads or any monetization, just something I built for a very specific local problem.

It’s cruise ship season again in Juneau, and I walk to work downtown every day. I get stopped for directions multiple times per commute. I’m not super social, but I also like being helpful/not rude.

So I built a tiny app to help give directions to tourists.

You pick a common tourist destination, and it generates directions from your current location as a QR code. You just hold up your phone, they scan it, and it opens directly in their Google Maps.

I also added a “locals” section with directions to trailheads that are a little less obvious, with notes like “if you hit Cowee Bridge, you’ve gone too far.”

Not trying to turn this into anything, just figured I’d share in case anyone else deals with the same thing or finds it useful.
