So i never spent a lot of money on phones because i always assumed i'd break or lose them somehow, but my old crappy xiaomi redmi note is diyng and wanted to upgrade to something better.
Last year a friend of mine let me test their iphone 15 pro and i was pretty surprised by how much flexible video files shot in pro res log through the blackmagic app were. I bascially could match it with my canon c70 without any hassle. So i was thinking maybe i should buy an iphone but:
15 pro still has the old charger, which is annoying since they're outdated and you're not always likely to find one if you forget yours
16 pro is still very expensive, even second hand
i'm annoyed by the lack of a 3,5mm jack, sure you can use an adapter but i'm pretty sure you'll be loosing some quality and listening to music with good headphones is important to me
i always had android phones and to get to learn ios and transfer my data would be a mild inconvenience
i have a windows pc and laptop and i'm afraid i'll run into compayibility issues
So dear videographers what are good alternatives to iphones for shooting video? I'm not going to be shooting primarily on it but i'd use it as a B/C cam for easy jobs or for documenting little adventure stuff and trips. This is what i care about:
- budget around 500-1000 euros
- at least 10 bit 422 footage, better if with an intermediate/uncompressed file
- an option to shoot log, meaning a real log profile not that desaturated color profile bullishit some companies push like log
- good battery life
- better if it has an 3,5 earphone jack
I'll have to match it with canon c70/bmpcc6k/mavic mini pro 5/avata 2, i'm proficient with color grading and didn't have issues to match iphone 15 pro footage with them.
Also does the blackmagic app work on android as well? Are there other competitors i'm not aware of?
