Mechanic says he uses 5W-40 on his personal 2019 Jetta instead of 0W-20.

As the title states, I was talking to the owner of a German Auto shop, and he told me that 5W-40 is better for engine longevity, especially for vehicles with high mileage. He also recommended using VW 505 spec 5W-40 for my next oil change.

Obviously I'm not going to do this with my 26' Jetta since it's still under warranty, but I was wondering if anyone else had done this and if it had a tangible benefit for their car.

It looks like the Jetta family of cars was using this oil before 2019, and from what I understand, one of the reasons they switched to a lower viscosity oil was because of emissions? Please let me know what you guys think in the replies.
