Anita at 9 weeks

She’s 9 weeks tomorrow and has been home for two weeks today! She’s gained 4 oz, so 22% of her body weight. She was doing GREAT with puppy pad-training the first week but regressed a lot as she got more curious and confident moving around the house. She has horrible manners with her 4-yo “stepsister” Yorkie who was here with us last week and ends up in air jail a lot to give the older dog some peace. 😅 And she has hated her crate since the second time she’s ever been in it. But she’s learning our routines and she gets soooo excited to see my kids every morning as they emerge from their bedrooms. Second round of puppy vaccines tomorrow! I’m eager for the vet to clear her to go outside so we can start outdoor potty-training, phew.

This baby is coming home this weekend

She’s still younger than she should be, but the people who brought her and her littermates into the world have experienced a bit of a family emergency and have determined that now that the puppies are weaned, they need their forever families to pick them up.

I’ve been a senior dog rescue mom, and it’s been 20 entire years since I’ve had a puppy in my home. I fell in love with my husband’s Yorkie when I met them and a little while after my large-breed senior passed, he did the leg work to find me a local Yorkie pup. (Mom is a traditional Yorkie and dad is a certified Biewer).

I’ve been reading as much as I can so I can anticipate any potential challenges, and she has a vet appointment Monday morning. But if anybody has had to raise a Yorkie puppy from about 7-8 weeks of age, would you be so kind as to tell me what that was like?

I do work full-time from home and while my days can be meeting-heavy, we have enough flexibility that I am confident I can meet her needs throughout the day and begin working on training as soon as it’s appropriate. But I don’t truly know when it’s appropriate and don’t want to miss those windows! Any advice you’ve got is welcome.
