Help a beginner out - recording not working
Hi everyone, getting slightly desperate so decided to ask for help here. After years of wanting to record my music, I've finally gotten the devices necessary to do so. Specifically, I got an Audient ID14 interface, a Rode NT1 mic and Ableton Live for mixing. I'm currently sitting here trying to record, but it seems like I'm missing an important piece. My mic is plugged into the Audient interface with an XLR cable, which is in turn plugged into my computer with a USB-C cable. If I click any button on the audio interface, the corresponding lights turn on, so I reckon it's plugged in correctly. Nevertheless, I cannot for the life of me get the lights in the middle of the interface to start flickering if I speak into or tap the mic (which I understand is how you notice it's working, no?). Similarly, my Ableton app is not picking up on anything.
I'm probably gonna find this embarrassing when I am no longer a full novice, but what am I missing? Really aching to record, so I hope someone can help me out!
Edit: Pressing all the buttons and flicking all the switches loads of times seems to have helped, thanks everyone! Next challenge is to manage to play back the recording through my headphones, but I'll get to that next time.
