Another little update

Don’t know why I’m spending so much time on these. I haven’t played in ages…

so here we have some single building foundations. Specifically meant for the fully ruined packing card buildings. I’ll need two more to house them all.

That leaves one foundation space empty on the double foundations already shown. I’ll probably do a simple cube-ish building for that, like one of the levels of the centrepiece tower I did.

I’ve also got a base to build, which will house the black building with the dish on top, also shown elsewhere. That base is ready for work and I have a few weapons to mount on it too.

The final thing will be a couple of industrial pieces, just to make it look like a colony that does work of some kind, then I could call it a full set. Might even be able to fit it all into a couple of boxes.

Update on my Grand Central Centre Piece Tower

Is the name too long?

Finished the road markings. my first marker wouldn’t work, either running low or didn’t like going over pencil after sitting for so long, so I had to get another one which doesn’t have as fine a point. lines still came out ok, just a bit of extra mess.

I haven’t checked the sizes on the parking spaces but the ones in front are for the command Chimeras. Big ones on the right for Russes and the other side for regular old ground cars.

H-Pad on the roof for things that H. Hopefully big enough for a Thunderhawk but it doesn’t really matter.

Spent Saturday putting recesses in my building bases so they won’t move when once deployed. These are maybe half a mm deep and work fine for perfectly flat building card bases (i know, redundancy there. MDF bases hold which in turn sit on thick card bases.). But some of the card bases are curve a little and don’t sit as well so I might need to recess deeper.

Did the road and parking layout for my centre piece too. Was going to line it in on Sunday but did yard work instead. Yay for shovelling a ton of gravel.

Bonus pictures of potential layout of the city. Feat’ing additional packing card only damaged buildings. Which will also receive card and mdf bases in time.

Bonus bonus pics of Catzilla. Not catzilling.

This did actually take three times as long as my other buildings and yes, I could have made three buildings instead of one but then I wouldn’t be able to block LoS and movement of fliers! 😆

Honestly it was a folly, just like the historical ones, in both senses. But it’ll make a mean centre piece for the table.

Besides the painting I also want to put an antenna or two on the top to add another 120-125mm in height but I haven’t got anything to put there yet.

And, as that I tire near the end shows, each layer can be flipped over and slid inside the layer it sits on. This would have been much easier to do, and allowed for a potentially taller tower, if I’d left off the buttresses - but then it wouldn’t have matched my other buildings.

So anyway, enjoy. And hopefully I’ll get the antennas on and paint it this year.

This line stuck out to me while I was reading to my daughter.

If the elves of Mirkwood don’t farm or work metals/do crafts then how do they afford to buy all the wine that comes up the river for their parties?

The king might have a taste for silver and white gems and want to expend his treasure hoard but how?

Tolkien says they’re elves and therefore good people so they can’t be going around raiding and there doesn’t seem to be the D&D style magic item creation economy that they could maybe do as a magical people.

Any other references to or speculation on how they create wealth?
