Heard a noise from the valve cover, so I popped it off and saw one of the rockers was riding on the edge.

Adjustment didn’t seem to be loose. I haven’t even been rough on the engine because it’s still in break in, less than 100 miles since rebuild, probably hasn’t gotten up to 3k rpm yet.

What are my options here? Do I have to take the head off and get a new valve? Or can I grind the bad spot off the valve or something?

I did a whole rebuild on this thing, and now that it’s all back together I’m having some issues. I’m tired of working on this thing so I ended up taking it to a shop for an estimate.

When I rebuilt it, I used Speed Engineering headers and their off-road y-pipe.

https://speed-engineering.com/collections/1993-1997-camaro-firebird-exhaust/products/speed-engineering-gen-4-camaro-firebird-1-3-4-longtube-headers-1993-1997-gen-2-lt1-engines

They didn’t fit well. I had to do some hammering to clear the subframe and the steering. Apparently, I didn’t hammer enough. The steering rubs while turning.

I took it to a shop for them to fix it from rubbing the steering, and install some catalytic converters because the thing stinks up my garage for hours when it runs.

They called me back today and basically told me they can’t do that. It “doesn’t have enough room to add catalytic converters with those headers, and fixing the rubbing will be a lot of effort”. They are trying to sell me a whole new setup, StainlessWorks exhaust for nearly $5k installed.

They were also talking about elongating the holes on the steering rack to get it to fit.

I feel like these guys didn’t even try. They just took a look at it and want to sell me something else. I’m torn between paying for it to be done with it, or telling them to kick rocks.
