Shadi season is genuinely exhausting when you’re queer in a desi family. Every function feels like a performance. I have to suddenly become “mardana” around relatives - sit a certain way, talk a certain way, dress a certain way. Meanwhile the girls are having fun wearing pretty lehengas, doing makeup together, taking pictures, matching jewelry, dancing freely etc. And I’m just there in another plain kurta pretending to enjoy myself 😭
Sometimes I genuinely wish I could experience weddings the way they do.
