Wanted an easier way to pour large cartons, so I designed a customizable lattice holder.

Hello Reddit.

I wanted to make handling and pouring large beverage cartons a bit easier for my family, so I designed this lattice-style handle and holder.

It’s fully customizable model based on OpenSCAD. I’ve already set up presets on the MakerWorld Customizer for standard US Half-Gallons and smaller buttermilk/creamer cartons, but you can easily tweak the parameters for any rectangular container (like 2L international sizes), just pick "Custom" in the customizer and configure your own parameters.

Tip if customizing: Measure the width and height of your target carton with calipers and add at least 1mm of clearance—if the fitment is too tight, it will be tough to slide the empty carton out!

Print Details:

  • Filament: PETG (highly recommended for fridge/moisture resistance) or PLA.
  • Settings: 2–3 walls, no supports needed.
  • Weight: ~200g (2 walls) to ~240g (3 walls) for the US half-gallon size.

The lattice pattern keeps the print time down and the weight light (vs a full walls) while keeping it plenty rigid when holding a brand-new, full carton.

I designed a parametric holder in OpenSCAD with conical internal bases to keep my pencils from breaking their leads in standard cups & holders

Hello Reddit.

I designed this for my desk in OpenSCAD with a conical taper at the bottom of each tube. Instead of the pencil "standing" on its lead core (which shatters it if you drop it in), it rests on the wood shoulder or the metal ferrule.

It's fully parametric, so I can swap it from 4 tubes to 12 (6-8 probably looks best to not be too overcrowded) depending on how many pencils this might be required for.

The Vintage Factor: That golden-orange pencil on the right is a 30+ year old Koh-I-Noor from Czechoslovakia. It's an artifact from the past, so this was mostly an over-engineered way to keep it safe and be a showcase on the desk.

Got tired of a flimsy cartons - designed a parametric holder (OpenSCAD)

Got tired of the family dealing with flimsy half-gallon cartons, so I designed this lattice-style handle.

The design is fully customizable via OpenSCAD—I’ve included presets for standard US Half-Gallons and the smaller Buttermilk/Creamer cartons, but you can tweak the parameters for basically any rectangular carton (like the 2L ones in Canada).

Measure the width/height with calipers and add at least 1mm (I've added a parameter for it in the MakerWorld customizer already, but keep it in mind that if fitment is tight, it's going to be almost impossible to pull the carton out when empty).

Print Details:

  • Filament: PETG (recommended for fridge/moisture) or PLA
  • Settings: 2-3 walls, no supports needed.
  • Weight: ~200g for the large one at 2 walls (about 240g with 3 walls) for a half gallon (big one)

The lattice helps keep the print time down and the weight light while still being plenty stiff for a full carton.

If you want to give it a try, I've uploaded it to MakerWorld: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2780058-milk-juice-carton-handle-fully-customizable
