Still no diagnosis…desperate for answers
I’m desperately looking for some insight on my 10 year old Black Mouth Cur. Over the past couple of years, his diagnostics have been a bit puzzling to several doctors and a recent ultrasound has us at a loss.
Started with routine bloodwork and urinalysis showing low albumin and elevated urine protein 2 years ago. Six months later, the numbers were basically the same, and we didn’t get a diagnosis. Monitoring this sort of fell to the wayside as he has been seemingly very normal and healthy.
More recently, he was diagnosed with a supraventricular arrhythmia discovered during routine exam. His echocardiogram looked normal structurally, and he’s otherwise asymptomatic. He has good energy, appetite, and behavior. A holter monitor showed about a 3% arrhythmia burden. He’s currently on sotalol 60 mg.
His cardiologist recommend an abdominal ultrasound for further diagnostics, which we just had done and it showed all normal organs but some free fluid in the abdomen. They said that’s normally a sign of heart disease, but his echo was normal so doctors are all stumped.
I’m hoping to understand:
- Whether these issues might be connected or are likely separate
- What this could mean for his prognosis, given that he seems clinically normal
- Has anyone dealt with a similar situation or have thoughts on what this might indicate in terms of a diagnosis?
Thanks so much for any advice or perspective.
