I’m planning to take a personal health insurance policy and I’m confused about the best way to buy it.

Should I:

\- buy through Policybazaar,

\- buy directly from the insurance company website, or

\- buy through a personal insurance adviser/agent?

Which option is better in terms of:

\- claim support,

\- transparency,

\- premium,

\- customer service, and

\- avoiding future issues?

Would like to hear real experiences and suggestions from people who already purchased health insurance in India.

I recently purchased an HDFC ERGO health insurance policy through Policybazaar. During underwriting, they permanently excluded coverage for a cyst that I have had for many years, even though no treatment, surgery, or major complications were ever involved.

I was expecting it to be covered after a standard waiting period (like 2–3 years), but instead they permanently excluded it. Because of this, I am planning to cancel the policy.

It has been around 10 days since the policy was issued. Does anyone know:

- Will there be any cancellation charges or refund deductions within the free-look period?

- Has anyone faced similar permanent exclusions for minor/pre-existing conditions?

- Which insurance companies are comparatively better and more reasonable with underwriting/pre-existing conditions?

I’m looking for insurers with:

- Good claim settlement experience

- Wide hospital network

- Fair handling of pre-existing diseases

- Reasonable premiums

Would appreciate genuine suggestions and real experiences. I am thinking to plan ICICI/Aditya.
