My theory as to why Fanboy and Chum Chum was picked up over Adventure Time

From what has been confirmed, it was said that the Fanboy pilot was picked up literally because of the CGi. They likely thought Adventure Time, despite the pilot becoming an internet sensation, was too weird.

I don't think the higher ups at Nick were really thinking about writing. They saw how good the art direction of the Fanboy pilot was, and just went off of that.

Look at the shows that were already airing and the ones that were confirmed to be in development at Nickelodeon Studios prior to Fanboy and Chum Chum's premiere:

Tak and The Power of JuJu

Planet Sheen

The Penguins of Madagascar

Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness

Monsters Vs Aliens

Barnyard was also still on the air, and the 2012 TMNT show was then greenlit later. ALVINNN!!! And The Chipmunks was an acquired show for a long time too. Other networks like Cartoon Network and Disney weren't prioritizing CGi. I think Nickelodeon just wanted to become the CGi cartoon channel as a competitor.

Hell look at the shows they've had in RECENT years. They rebooted Rugrats in CGi, Fairly Oddparents A New Wish and Kamp Koral were made in CGi, they made a new Transformers and Monster High show in CGi, Big Nate was CGi, they aquired properties like The Smurfs and LEGO Jurassic World, etc.

Also, while CGi isn't cheap by any means (trust me it isn't, despite people's misconception that it is), Nick likely didn't want to keep paying for more background artists. In CGi, you can reuse assets easier.

So basically Nick has had an obsession with CGi for years instead of quality writing. They think CGi will become more attractive to kids.

They also likely saw the underwear and annoying humor of Fanboy, thinking it would become their next SpongeBob... Then they kept wanting to recycle that in Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners. They probably thought Pinky Malinky would magically become the next Gumball as well.

Bring back Glitch Techs!!!!!

Are there any left-wing politicians trying to fight censorship in places like the UK, Canada, Australia, etc?

Sorry if this sounds like a naive question, as I am not from any of these countries (I'm also unsure if "left-wing" means something different there either) but I'm just wondering. I think it's pretty ridiculous that people in the UK are being arrested for proship art, and that a woman in Australia was arrested for writing a fucking fictional book.

The thing that I find sad about this situation is that because it's such an embarrassing conversation that many people will not take seriously at all, no one will openly stand up for it. Politicians and movements in the US, both left and right (mostly right), are literally trying to ban pornography in general and no politician wants to talk about combating that.

The only people I see talk about this openly, politically, are anime fans who are bigoted reactionaries that complain about "wokeness". I don't understand how you can support pro-ship work and a party where the majority is also trying to ban NSFW works in general at the same time.

I honestly would want to move to a place like Australia or Canada if it wasn't for these stupid laws. This is why I think the first amendment in the US is so important.

Even then, other western countries are affecting the US too. They're being affected by the OS and social media age verification laws as well, and some US politicians, again, both left and right, are conforming to it. When the hell did US left-wingers become anti-NSFW!?

I really miss the old internet when no one really cared, and people understood it wasn't a playground

(Ramble warning)

I'm probably going to get put on r/lewronggeneration for saying this but I feel like those people, as well as a lot of communities, just see any discussion of the past as baseless nostalgia despite there being genuine differences.

I don't miss the bigotry of the 00s nor the recession that happened during the Bush administration (not much has changed on that end). But man... I REALLY miss when pop culture was a bit edgier. When liberal youth was edgier.

I don't see many people talk about the fact that YouTube Kids didn't used to be a thing, and children were never the target demographic for sites like DeviantArt and fanfiction sites. Now a lot of things are being infantized.

There used to be a general understanding that "Rule 34" meant there was just porn of everything. That's how the term originated. And so long as it was only harmless work of cartoon/anime characters, no one cared. AO3 was always open to pro-shipping from the get-go too.

I always see people complain when a modern cartoon has the slightest innuendo now too. Back then it was considered cool actually. It gave kids who grew up with those shows/movies something to appreciate when they got older.

I also felt that forums and blogs added more diversity to the internet. People were more respectful on those than social media platforms. I also miss when most people watched TV and rent DVDs since that led to original content being marketed. And there was more variety in mainstream music. But now I'm getting ahead of myself.

Now we're getting less original media, age verification laws for operating systems and social media, pro-shipping and some artworks are illegal in some western countries, some western countries are trying to ban pornography and gay marriage all together, more and more media is being infantized, AI is taking over the world (and people have been making disgusting shit with that), and so many people are actually conforming to this. Left and right.

This is going to sound pathetic to some, but I legit cry when I watch silly old YouTube videos, watch old commercials, look through old fanart/websites, and watch old shows because I start to remember these times.

Kids should go back to playing Flash games or heavily restricted social media... Now Flash is gone and even stuff like the Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network websites have been shut down, and kids are using fucking Tik Tok and Instagram.

And instead of yelling at parents about parental controls and how they need to keep kids away from places on the internet including social media that was never meant for them (like we used to), people are now saying "we need to make YouTube safer for kids".

"You dislike 2010s-present Nick because you didn't grow up with it"/"You grew out of Nick"

I keep seeing this sentiment from the revisionists on this sub who keep literally telling people that they're wrong for not liking the 2009 logo or the shows that were airing around that era (Sanjay and Craig, Breadwinners, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Pig Goat Banana Cricket, Rocket Monkeys, modern SpongeBob and FOP, Thundermans, Henry Danger, Game Shakers, etc). Some people have responded with this argument to me too, knowing nothing about me.

I am going to respond to this with a few personal claims:

  1. I actually WAS the target demographic in the 2010s. I still think the branding and the shows they were airing were bad.

  2. I don't dislike every 2009-present show they made. Just most of them. I liked Legend Of Korra, TMNT (2012), and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. I think The Loud House and Harvey Beaks were also decent shows. And I actually think that Glitch Techs is one of the greatest Nicktoons to come since Avatar.

  3. There are shows that came from Nick's competitors at this time that I thought were far superior. Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball, Gravity Falls, Wonder Over Yonder, Star Vs The Forces of Evil, Steven Universe, MLP, etc.

You can't say that I'm "nostalgia blinded" now for thinking Nick went downhill. I just literally did not like the shows they were putting out. Not everyone likes gross-out comedy and annoying characters. It's not invalid for people to think that the 2009 logo looks far more corporate and boring compared to the iconic splat.

I just think classic SpongeBob, FOP, Jimmy Neutron, Invader Zim, Danny Phantom, My Life As A Teenage Robot, Avatar, Hey Arnold, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, As Told By Ginger, etc., along with the old logo and branding, were just a lot better.

#And I am not a 90s kid.

When the channel was EXCLUSIVELY cartoons and aired older animated movies/shows alongside current ones.

I wish the Disney+ FAST channels weren't ass and they'd just recreate this again (with commercials and bumps).

I recently rewatched this show to see what the revised appeal for it is. And honestly yeah, I don't hate it either. In my opinion, it's not the worst cartoon Nickelodeon ever made or aired. Breadwinners, Sanjay and Craig, Planet Sheen, Monsters Vs Aliens, and Rocket Monkeys are a lot more annoying, and I would rather watch this than something like Butt-Ugly Martians or Yakkity Yak. Hell Mighty B, TUFF Puppy, and Catdog, which are shows I see as a guilty pleasure, are also more annoying and harder to watch than this. I agree that the hate was overblown for this one. I can see why people like it.

With that being said, I am still sick of people acting as if this was some misjudged masterpiece that shouldn't receive any lick of criticism anymore, and people throwing shit towards others who still don't like it.

Guys... PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO STILL NOT LIKE THIS SHOW!!! It is perfectly reasonable why someone would! The characters are one dimensional and the main characters themselves have really dumb names/personalities. The theme song is extremely annoying too. Moments of this show are pretty annoying. The humor can be really juvenile in a dumb and less charming way (like when a character randomly laughs at the word "poop").

I personally wish people would give Glitch Techs, a series that was co-creater by the same person who made this show, more attention. That show is practically unheard of compared to Fanboy and Chum Chum. I wish people would demand more representation and noticeability of that series than this.
