I’m 20 and make around $120k/year before tax working oil & gas, but I work 12-hour shifts with a 1-hour commute each way on a 5 on / 5 off schedule, so my workdays are basically just work and sleep. I have an opportunity for a different job starting around ~$80k before tax with 8-hour days Monday to Friday, little to no commute, and a more normal schedule plus union benefits and room to move up. I know it’s a pay cut, but I’d have way more free time and a better routine—would I be crazy to make that switch or should I stick it out for the money while I’m young?

TL;DR: $120k job with long hours vs $80k job with normal hours — should I switch?
