Dollarama Incident Management/Legal Affairs rep offered me a $10 Giftcard for finding what appeared to be a worm and maggot eggs / mould in my pistachios. [toronto]

Reposted because I accidentally deleted my original post.

I purchased a bag of wonderful brand pistachios from Dollarama in Toronto. After eating 3/4s of the bag I discovered that a pistachio I was about to put in my mouth had what looked like a brown maggot inside, a dozen maggot eggs and what looks like mould. (I have retained both photo video evidence and the actual product). Needless to say what appeared to be contamination in their food product was extremely concerning and I felt ill afterwards, so I vomited up everything I had just eaten. I was also extremely concerned because upon googling pistachios I saw reports online about a prior recent recall related to pistachios and salmonella in Canada, which added to my concern.

I contacted Dollarama and Health Canada. Dollarama contacted Wonderful pistachios - who offered up an essay on bugs in their products and how it's 'nothing to worry about'. Neither right off the bat offered any sort of initiative/remediation to make amends that I had to go through this. After I asked, well, what are you going to do about it, I was offered a $10 Dollarama gift card by their Incident Management/ Legal Affairs rep. , or Wonderful pistachios would offer me coupons for further purchases. I thought that a customer finding what looked like a maggot, mould and maggot eggs in food that was consumed would warrant an apology and something smarter than coupons for more purchases of the same product or a $10 gift card. I felt the response was inadequate given the situation. I basically told them they can keep the $10 because it's an insult considering what happened.

Sharing this story because I believe it's relevant to consumers to know how local companies handle incidents and so we can all make well informed decisions about who we give our money to. I and my family have shopped at these stores for 20+ years but will no longer be returning. I would rather pay a premium elsewhere than give business to this company.

I was also extremely concerned because upon googling these pistachios I was informed that they were previously recently recalled across the country for salmonella contamination.

The greed and lack of care of the Dollarama rep and the Wonderful pistachios reps was appalling. I basically told them they can keep the $10 because it's an insult considering what happened.
