Black and White Bel Canto Bespoke official mockup!

Sorry for the long awaited update on the Black and White Bel Canto. I’ve been holding off because I wanted to wait until we had official mockup from the Christopher Ward Bespoke team before sharing anything further… and it is finally here!

First off, I just want to say how incredibly exciting this entire process has been. In the meantime, I also had the opportunity to visit the team at the Vancouver Timepiece Show, which was an absolute blast and made this project feel even more real.

When this concept first started, the vision was always centered around a dramatic black and white aesthetic. As conversations evolved with Peter France and the Bespoke team at Christopher Ward, we started discussing what was actually feasible from both a design and manufacturing standpoint.

The new updated, and most importantly feasible, design uses a beautiful guilloché transition that fades from light to dark across the dial, creating this incredible movement from silver and white tones at the top into deep black tones toward the bottom.

What began as a simple black and white concept evolved into something far more dramatic and refined once the Christopher Ward Bespoke team began translating the idea into a truly manufacturable piece of horology.

Rather than simply darkening components, the design actually leans into light itself as part of the watch’s identity.

The dramatic guilloché creates an amazing sense of movement and depth across the entire face of the watch. It almost feels as though the dial is slowly disappearing into shadow while the bird mechanism and chiming complication emerge from it.

The result keeps the black and white identity fully intact while making the bird, chime indicator, and clock display stand out in a much more elegant and visually striking way. Depending on how the light hits the dial, the watch shifts between icy silver tones, dark graphite reflections, and deep black textures, giving the entire piece an almost living, atmospheric quality.

Honestly, seeing the official renderings for the first time completely blew me away. The Christopher Ward design team absolutely nailed it.

The last update I received from Peter was that the project would require a minimum of 50 committed orders to move forward. Since then, the interest list has grown to over 120 people, which is honestly wild to me.

Now that we finally have official mockups from the Christopher Ward team, I honestly feel like the question is no longer whether this project will happen, it’s whether we expand beyond the original planned run of 50 pieces.

With the interest list now sitting at over 120 people, it’s obvious there’s real excitement surrounding this watch. At the same time, realistically not everyone on the list will ultimately move forward once deposits and final commitments happen.

Because of that, I personally feel like a run of 50 pieces is probably a very safe number and would likely sell out extremely quickly while also keeping the watch rare and highly collectible.

That said, I’m really curious what everyone thinks at this stage now that we’re looking at official Christopher Ward mockups instead of just concepts and ideas.

Should this remain an ultra exclusive run of 50 pieces… or do you think demand justifies expanding it to 100 so more people have the opportunity to own one?

Again, if you’d like to be added to the email list and be notified the moment the pre-order link goes live for the Noir et Blanc or “Blackbird Bel Canto”, you can sign up

Side note: The only other potential change currently being discussed with the Christopher Ward Bespoke team is slightly shifting the bird’s beak and the sound indicator from a brighter red into a deeper ruby/crimson tone, as it gives the watch a more elevated and refined overall appearance. The darker red integrates more naturally into the monochromatic black-and-white aesthetic while still drawing attention to the chiming mechanism in a subtle and elegant way. Rather than feeling like a bright accent color, the ruby tone adds warmth, depth, and a more luxurious atmosphere to the piece, helping the entire watch lean even further into the feeling of mechanical art. We’re currently waiting on an updated mockup render showing this refinement, which I should hopefully have from the team by the end of this week.
