Clouds should gradually get darker and denser as rain or a thunderstorm approaches, then do the opposite after it ends. This should be more dramatic for thunderstorms.

Aesthetically, this makes for a less abrupt and more pleasingly 'natural' meteorological transition.

I prefer having two different colors of cloud (with the lower ones being darker) to all the clouds darkening, because it makes it easier to notice this at a glance--especially at night.

Though primarily for aesthetics, foreknowledge of storms also:

  • Warns players unready for thunderstorms to have a bed close by, to make a lightning rod, and/or to move any villagers inside.
  • Gives players HOPING for thunderstorms time to cleanly put down any complex project they're working on and fetch their lightning rods/get their mob head hunting gear on/go to desired storm location. This is particularly valuable for all advancements speedrunners.
  • Lets players fetch their rod and hop down to an open-air fishing spot for the rain-boosted fishing rate.
