I got scammed $10,000 via a PayPal invoice purchase. No buyer protection offered.

I texted someone about an expensive item they had for sale. They told me i could purchase it from them via PayPal invoice for $10,000. I received an invoice from the seller which clearly showed the item in the invoice description. I paid the invoice and thought I would have buyer protection as the invoice email from PayPal indicated I would.

After paying the seller never shipped the item, so i opened an item not received case. the seller's only response was 'this was for a service. not a physical item.' Nowhere in the invoice did it say the seller was offering a service. I said the invoice description clearly showed it was for a physical item. The seller never uploaded a tracking #, so I escalated the dispute to a PayPal resolution

PayPal denied my item not received case by saying my purchase wasn't protected, and I got scammed out of $10,000. I got no explanation why. PayPal guarantees buyer protection and did not offer me any protection.

It is clear this was a scam by the seller that knew exactly how to bypass PayPal's buyer protections by pretending to offer a service after the fact instead of a physical item even though the invoice description clearly shows i was purchasing a physical item. I should have had buyer protection and got my money back.

I am going to appeal this in the morning, but does anyone have any suggestions? I am not getting my hopes up as every time I call PayPal about something I usually get redirected to a rep that barely speaks English and they aren't very helpful.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.
