Urgent help needed – My sister’s suicide case in Tiruvallur, need legal & women welfare support

My sister Meghana Shree died by suicide on 13 Feb 2026 in a village near Tiruvallur. We are from Bangalore and don’t know anyone locally, and we are struggling to get proper action on her case.

She was married to Guna Sekaran during the lockdown. After marriage, she faced serious harassment from her husband and in-laws, including:

  • Dowry-related pressure for money (they wanted funds for land purchase)
  • Being forced to work and give them money
  • Being forced into abortion when she was pregnant
  • Physical abuse, including attempts to harm her
  • Husband allegedly having an affair
  • In her suicide note, she mentioned she did not feel safe in that village

When we previously tried to take action, we were pressured and discouraged by people from their side.

After her death:

  • RK Pet Police took her body and sent it to Tiruvallur Government Hospital
  • The case is now with the Tiruvallur RDO office
  • Police are not responding properly and say they can’t help further
  • The accused (her husband) is still free and has not been arrested
  • Her 20 sovereign gold jewellery is still with them
  • My phone was taken by police because my sister sent me her final message

She also has a 3-year-old daughter who is currently with her husband’s family. We are very concerned about the child’s safety and wellbeing and want to understand what legal steps we can take regarding her custody.

We are not financially strong, but we want justice for her and safety for her child. Right now we need:

  • Contact with women welfare organizations / activists in Tamil Nadu
  • Legal guidance (especially regarding dowry harassment, abetment, and child custody)
  • Help escalating this case to higher authorities
  • Any local support in Tiruvallur/Chennai

If anyone can guide us or connect us with the right people, please comment or DM. This would mean a lot to us.
