Hi! First time taking a DNA ancestry test and I don’t really know how to interpret my results

I finally did a DNA test after many years wanting to do one. I started with MyHeritage. My results came back as 51% Chilean and 46% Iberian.

What confused me is that “Chilean” doesn’t really say much genetically, since Chileans are generally a mestizo population with mixed European and Indigenous ancestry.

Then I downloaded my raw data and uploaded it to GEDmatch. There, most calculators seem to show something closer to ~70% European (mostly Spanish/Iberian-related) and around 26% Amerindian.

So now I’m confused:

  • Should I trust the MyHeritage estimate?
  • Or are GEDmatch calculators more accurate for ancestry breakdowns?
  • How can MyHeritage label me as 51% “Chilean” if GEDmatch suggests I’m mostly European genetically?

I’m still trying to understand how ethnicity estimates actually work, especially for Latin American populations. Any insight would be appreciated.

Do you think this design would look good on my wrist?

Hi guys, I drew this design that I might eventually get tattooed on my arm. I’ll ask my tattoo artist to refine and improve it, but I wanted to ask you whether you think it would look good on the wrist or if you’d suggest another placement where it could stand out more or maybe connect better with my first tattoo. Do you think it will look good on my wrist?

My results as a Chilean! First time doing this, please help me understand my results.

My country, Chile, is fundamentally very mestizo/mixed. I’d like to understand something: if my DNA test says I’m 50% Chilean, does that mean I’m 50% Indigenous (Mapuche, Aymara, etc.)? Or does “Chilean” in these tests usually represent a broader mix of Indigenous + Spanish/European ancestry?

Hey everyone, how’s it going?

I wanted to ask for some advice about my tattoo. It’s my first one, and I got it in honor of my daughter, who was born in 2024 (Year of the Wood Dragon. How cool is that?). That’s why I chose a design with a forest and a dragon. I really loved the concept at the time, and honestly, I still do.

But recently, a friend told me it looks kind of… “hipster.” I didn’t know much about tattoos when I got it, but now that I look at it again, I kind of see what he means. It feels like something that was trendy in the early 2010s.

Anyway, I have a touch-up session this monday, and I’d like to take advantage of it to improve the design a bit. I’m thinking of asking the artist to help me make it look less “hipster” and more organic or natural.

Do you have any suggestions on how I could achieve that? Maybe stylistic changes, additions, or ways to rework what’s already there?

Thanks in advance!
