Victim of a $70k theft in Miami Beach and still cannot even get a detective assigned
Looking for honest input from law enforcement people here.
I was the victim of a high-value luxury watch theft in Miami Beach. Approximate value is around $70k. There was also battery involved and what appears to be drugging/incapacitation behavior on surveillance footage.
A police report was filed immediately with Miami Beach PD. It has now been over a week and I still do not even have a detective assigned.
I have called repeatedly, left voicemails, and physically went to the department three separate times. So far I have received essentially zero follow-up or communication.
Meanwhile, surveillance footage windows are expiring and I have been trying to preserve evidence myself. I even hired a private investigator because I felt like nothing was happening.
My question is:
Is this normal for a case like this in a major city? Does this simply mean the department is overloaded, or does it usually indicate the case is effectively low priority unless new evidence appears?
Also, what is the correct way to escalate this professionally without becoming “that guy” constantly calling or showing up?
I'm becoming desperate and frankly I feel left alone.
