How cooked am I?
I currently work at a childcare centre that’s part of a bigger parent management/company group with multiple centres under it. I’ve been feeling pretty unhappy in my current centre for a while now (room changes, communication issues, feeling unsupported etc.) so I applied for a Lead Educator role at another centre under the SAME parent company. (I had no idea they were under us)
Well… they contacted me and I accepted an interview.
The problem is I haven’t told my current director yet and now I’m panicking that:
the other centre will contact her before I get the chance
management already knows
I’ve accidentally committed some huge childcare betrayal
I genuinely wasn’t trying to be sneaky — I just wanted to see what other opportunities were available because I’m not happy where I currently am. But now I’m stressed because childcare is such a small world and directors all seem to know each other.
Has anyone else interviewed/transferred within the same company without telling their director first? Did it blow up in your face or was it actually fine?
I’m especially worried because I’m still relatively new at my current centre and don’t want to completely destroy professional relationships/references.
