No Encouragement
My physician parent coerced me into following a military education. He would say " I don't know about any career other than medicine." Then I told him I wanted to go to medical school and he offered zero advice or encouragement. I never learned about premed, shadowing or the MCAT. I talked to my university medical school coordinator and I was so ignorant I am certain that's why he brushed me off as a dilettant. He never shared anything about medical careers or options. Needless to say I never made it to med school.
I was very young for my year. My high school prep was subpar with only three years of poorly taught science, so I started over with a second bachelor's in engineering. I did really well and it became clear that I would have excelled in premed. I had straight As in math, chemistry and physics.
Has this happened to anyone else? Online anecdotes are all about physician parents and how they either pressure or lovingly support their children in med school.
