My S23 predictions/thoughts about the “intern” class

I know they’re technically residents now, but honestly they still feel like the last real intern group to me, especially because the next generation already feels more recurring/background, even Wes and Dani. That’s why I really don’t think the show plans to lose anyone else from this group after Mika.

Kwan: I don’t think he’s leaving at all, but I do think he’s been very underused lately. The ex-fiancée storyline and even the Mohanty dynamic ended up feeling a bit underwhelming compared to how interesting Kwan was at the beginning. I really want competitive Kwan back, focusing more on his career and finally choosing a specialty — personally I think trauma fits him perfectly, even if he’s kind of lost his mentors now. I’d also love more focus on his friendships, especially with Lucas because their comedic dynamic works really well, and with Jules and Simone too.

Simone: I genuinely think they could be setting up a pregnancy storyline for her. And I think the biggest conflict wouldn’t just be who the father is, but whether she even wants to keep the baby, considering the fertility concerns the show already mentioned. If they continue with this storyline, I do think Lucas will end up being the father. But honestly, I still hope they continue developing Wes because that dynamic barely had time to grow, and at this point Simone and Lucas work much better for me as friends than as an actual couple.

Jules: That “I would want them to call me if something happened to you” was basically a confession. They’re clearly in love at this point. What interests me now is whether they’ll actually make things official at the hospital, because Ben already saw them, so it feels inevitable that Bailey will eventually find out too. I’m curious whether the show would actually explore consequences from that. It’s also interesting because this would basically be Jules’ first serious relationship since arriving at Grey Sloan, and commitment has always been complicated for her because of her abandonment trauma, even though she’s emotionally grown a lot this season.

Lucas: I really don’t think he needs to get back together with Simone, even if the pregnancy storyline happens and he ends up being the father. Honestly, they’d probably work better as caring co-parents than as a romantic relationship trying to survive while raising a child. What I actually want is for the show to develop Lucas’ dynamics outside of Simone more consistently. His scenes with Kwan are genuinely funny, and when he shares scenes with Jules it feels like they could become really close friends if the writers actually invested in it. I’m also interested in seeing his dynamic with Spencer develop slowly because Spencer could bring out different sides of Lucas, kind of the way Katie unexpectedly did this season.

Anyway, these are just my predictions/theories going into S23, but I’m curious what everyone else thinks. What storylines do you think they’re actually setting up for next season? And which dynamics do you want the show to focus on more?

I keep thinking about what we saw in the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy, and honestly, the emotional connection between Winston and Jules is kind of undeniable at this point.

What really stands out to me is how quickly they read each other — especially Winston with Jules. He immediately picks up when she’s not being fully honest (like we already saw when he caught her lying), and again here, he senses that hesitation in her when it comes to taking the next step. That emotional awareness between them is strong… maybe even a little too strong.

And yet, despite that hesitation, we got one of their softest, most beautiful scenes so far — and they end up sleeping together. So clearly, the feelings are there on both sides.

But here’s what I can’t stop thinking about:

From the very beginning of that episode, it’s so obvious that Jules doesn’t want to go to Winston’s place. And I’m not entirely sure why.

Is it fear of things becoming serious too fast?

Because let’s be real — they’re both clearly in love with each other at this point.

At first, I thought their biggest obstacle would be the hierarchy (attending vs resident). But now I’m starting to think that’s not the real issue.

I think the real obstacle is Jules’ fear of commitment.

She has a pattern. And honestly, it makes sense:

  • With Kwan, it never fully crossed the line — more like friends with benefits, even if feelings were there.
  • With Mika, it never had the chance to become a fully realized relationship (both because of external factors and Mika’s own trauma).

So we’ve actually never seen Jules in a fully committed, stable relationship on screen.

Which means… Winston might be her first real relationship in years (maybe ever, at least in the context of the show). And that’s huge.

If anything is going to create tension going forward — whether next episode or next season — I don’t think it’s the job dynamic.

It’s going to be that internal barrier: her fear of letting something real actually happen.

Curious what everyone else thinks:

  • Do you see this becoming their main conflict?
  • Or do you think the show will still lean into the professional hierarchy drama?
  • And what do you make of Jules hesitating about going to his place? 👀
