I wore this dress to a formal wedding this winter and I would like to wear it to another wedding this June, which will be more cocktail attire. I am a beginner (and have not worked with this type of fabric before) but I am open to a challenge.
Any ideas of what might be possible are appreciated!
My local community theatre is doing Oliver! and I am struggling to pick a song to Audition with. The audition requires a “musical theatre style song” and notes that we can choose a song from Oliver (however, I’ve done two shows with this company and when they last had a show with kids, they allowed the kids more freedom with the song choice, so I’m not 100 percent sure if it’s a kid-specific thing to be able to choose an Oliver song).
I would like to try to audition for Nancy, but I also selected the other female principle roles just because I know there are a lot more women with more experience with the company than me are also auditioning for Nancy. (I just want to be featured a bit more than ensemble, you know?)
Anyway, with that in mind I’m struggling to pick a song that is a great audition song for Nancy, but still showcases my vocal range enough for the other roles. I am technically a soprano and classically trained, but I have a good belt.
The ideas I have right now are:
- my days from The Notebook (I can reach the final high notes most days but i would be cut off before then)
- she used to be mine from Waitress (I love singing this and I know it well, but I worry the style is too contemporary)
- times are hard for dreamers from Amelie (in my vocal range but might be too happy of a song?)
- Santa Fe from Newsies (transposed up to a higher key, but might be a wild choice to do a gender swapped song?)
- for better or worse from Great Gatsby (this might be a perfect song but the best part of the song is the middle/end and we need to bring an instrumental track, not an accompanist so I’m not sure if I can just start from the middle and reliably know where I am in the song)
Opinions on the above short list or any you’d like to add would be appreciated !
