Looking for beta swaps for the first 3 chapters (about 5K words) of a found-family/found community saga. This is the first part of a larger 4-book saga currently in developmental editing. This is my first ‘live’ reading, and I’m curious how these chapters land.
Synopsis of segment shared:
Valera’s calm and peaceful childhood is about to be torn from her hands during a fateful stroll through her favorite woods. On the horizon a new and dangerous threat looms.

1. Moonlit Paths
Dampened moss squelched underneath her bare feet as she dashed along familiar paths. Moonlight dimly lit the way before her as she moved swiftly through the evergreen woods behind her village.
Not slowing her pace as she thrust her way deeper into the comfort of her forested sanctuary, she listened to the far off noises made by the striped owls that roosted in the branches above.
Halting as the forest gave way to a familiar outcropping of granite boulders, she stepped over to them and placed a hand on one. Its coarse, moss-covered surface was unchanged for as long as she could remember. Steadying herself against them to catch her breath, she closed her eyes.
