My hair is curly on the ends but straight at the top. I thought it could be to do with my hair's weight causing my curls to straighten out maybe?

I usually just use a shampoo and then conditioner. I was told to use mousse but honestly I have no idea what works. I could do with some advice. I like the curly bits of my hair and it looks best after a shampoo and has the most volume. I have quite dry hair and its not too thick.
