Parcel marked as delivered, courier signed on my behalf, then left outside. Now missing

I’m looking for advice on a really frustrating situation.
I had a very expensive parcel due for delivery and originally missed the first attempt. I then rearranged delivery for a specific day when I would be home.
Despite this, the parcel was delivered earlier than rescheduled. The courier signed for the parcel themselves in my name and left it outside my property without any handover or permission.
I did not authorise a safe place delivery and I was not home at the time. The parcel is now missing and I cannot find it anywhere around my property or with neighbours.
Tracking shows it as delivered, but I never physically received it.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? What are the next steps? I’ve already contacted the merchant.
Any advice would be appreciated.
