Oknife U1 Pro - Bad QC?

I got an Oknife U1 recently and really love it except that the handle could stand to be just a bit longer. I wasn’t initially interested in the Pro model, but the slightly longer handle seemed like it would be worth it. And it was!

But the first copy of the knife I received had a bulge in the scales on the right side; and the blade lock mechanism only worked on the left side. The left side is rough, but it works. I figured the bulge in the scale was related to the mechanism not working properly, but the replacement has perfectly flat scales and is still just about impossible to unlock with my thumb on the right side.

I tried oiling the mechanism. I also tried taking it apart to see if I could see any obvious issues, but I wasn’t able to get a couple of the screws out without them stripping. They’re installed with blue loctite, but seemingly at random torques. I’m fairly certain the screw for the pocket clip on one was stripped from the factory.

Anywho. Am I missing something that could be adjusted, or should I just give up on these things and try something else?

Also open to recommendations for compact utility knives that use most of the edge.

Maybe it’s finally time to replace them.

/s, of course.

Knipex Cobra XS used and abused (mostly abused) for 3 years. Covered in mud, what I wish was mud, gas, soldering flux once, various cleaners and greases. Scrubbed, re-oiled, run through the wash a few times.

They still work like new.

*edit*

Sorry, gang. The title was a joke! I should have known better than to put "/s" in the body and expect that to make it obvious. Totally on me. I just thought it was neat how rough and used they're looking in contrast with the comments about how most folks knipex XS look pristine (Not that there's anything wrong with being careful with your tools!)
