Finally installed my AOS + happy tractor noises
Hey all, I'm back (Used to be NetworkPolicy). Took a break after I got permabanned in my town's sub for reporting a known pedo, guess the mods are his buddies lol 🙄 Gotta love weirdos.
Got my intake valves cleaned this past Thursday. local mechanic at Six Star Auto Repair, his name is Austin. Decided I should finally install my AOS, not sure why I was procrastinating so much. Bought it in October 2024 and left it boxed up.
Tried to time it for my 60k service, but I misremembered my odometer reading I guess. I just knew service was due and I wasn't equipped to deal with walnut blasting. All things considered, I drive in Texas and the AOS is definitely overkill. Austin didn't think the valves looked bad for 57,000 miles but he was happy to take my money and make everything look more new than it already did.
But, I'm very picky with my vehicles so any carbon on the valves at all was bothering me for over a year now. I think my driving habits contributed the most to the surprising lack of carbon buildup, but maintenance with me is strict. I'm the time to cancel plans if it interrupts a maintenance interval lol.
Motul 8100 X-Clean for the first 36,000 miles, then y'all convinced me to try Valvoline Restore Protect. Both were the 5W-30 options. Both had excellent results from the lab, so it was really a toss-up for me, and I got 8100 on sale for my 57,000 oil change.
Maintenance is standard bullet point for those who abuse our cars: 3k mile oil changes, keep filters clean, use Top Tier rated gas, and I maintain a strict rule of maximum 2 cold starts per day if I can help it (work and home). It's not really the city driving that kills our cars, it's operating under temp too often.
Been tuned for 53,000 of these 57,000 miles. My AP has been in a box since I left the dyno in May 2024. I abuse it, but it always gets its TLC, down to the body part clips if they break.
