Suspected Gastroparesis - Went away and came back?
Precursor: I have hEDS and am being treated for IBS-d (however my symptoms are more in line with IBS-cd)
So, I was being seen for severe acid reflux that eventually turned into daily vomiting for 45-90 minutes each time. I am constantly vomiting into my mouth. Some of the vomit is liquidy and some is almost completely undigested even 5-6 hours after eating said food.
I was put on pantoprazole for a month in conjunction with as needed Pepcid complete, it did nothing. I was then switched to lansoprazole. My symptoms continued to get worse so I sought my own answers as I felt my GI was only seeing acid reflux when I felt like something else was wrong. After discussing gastroparesis with her she placed me on the respective diet and scheduled me for GES.
Things got so SO much better and I was finally able to eat again and hadn’t puked in weeks, then I had my GES and had 94% food digested with the only period of observed slow digestion in the first hour. I was pissed because I had been suffering for four months and like many of the medical issues I have I thought this was going to get stretched out for ever with no answers, so I got a meal at Wendy’s and pigged out.
To my surprise, I had no problems with Wendy’s despite it previously being puked undigested atleast 3 times. I had continued to eat freely for a week until my acid reflux began returning, and just now (which prompted me to post this) I puked completely undigested halved almonds into my mouth from 3 hours ago. I was also in the ER three days ago from presumed trapped gas pain that was causing uncontrollable burping and extreme 9/10 shoulder pain.
My mother suspects this is MCAS, my friends think ulcers or celiac (which I test negative for), I don’t know what to think anymore. I feel very lost and frustrated, so I come to you guys as gastroparesis protocol is the only treatment path that has actually worked / helped so far.
Can gastroparesis disappear and come back for a week? Can a GES be inaccurate? If this doesn’t sound like gastroparesis’ nature, does anyone have next steps for conversations I should have with my GI? (I see her on the 20th) Any possible conditions or symptoms to look into and bring up with her?
TIA!!
