Once upon a time in Hollywood..

It's great, it really is. And, in my opinion, is one

of Tarantino's best films - intoxicating, profound.

and deeply ambitious. And if you ask me, this is

Leonardo DiCaprio at his very best. I mentioned

the last time I reviewed this that I expected my

opinion to improve dramatically with another

watch, and it certainly did. It's interesting, but not

surprising that a film like this from Tarantino is

so polarising. This appears to be a film that much

of his filmography suggests he had been building

up to. A hang-out, fan-fiction fable with obvious

homages to old-school Hollywood in the spirit of

wicked revenge, taking revenge on his thoughts of

the past while shining a light on those who stood

out. There's a clear absence of boisterous action

that people are accustomed to seeing from him, so

it's possible that this is what turns many people off,

or it's simply the lack of a classical structure. But I

think that this is fantastic, I really do

Finally got around to watching sinners and

Literally effective in every way it strives to

succeed - riffs on the vampire allegory, giving it

renewed vigor and legend (definite vampires vs.

cultural) while simultaneously being a project that

could have operated merely as a musical drama

illustrating the relevance of creative expression

spanning generations to come. History is never

far behind. retains its unique fury throughout

with regular moments of nervousness that could

be slashed with a knife - instances that had me

virtually rocking back and forth in my seat. Pulls no

punches in its daring plays; man \*that\* sequence is

truly astounding. The type of film that makes you

say, "Why can't every contemporary blockbuster

look like this?" Oozing with grit and a flavor that

Coogler makes his own - he is undeniable and

might cement himself as one of the greats in years

to come, especially if he continues to be funded to

spin outside of the franchise wheel like this.
