Here's an amazing story I had never heard of: In 1952 a man opened fire at a cricket match at what is today Karen Rolton Oval killing one pler and wounding another.

The man killed was Arthur Henderson from Woomera, who was fielding at the time. The bowler, Ronald Reed was wounded with a shot in the arm.

The killer, Elias Gaha, a recent migrant from Lebanon was suffering from a mental health episode, hearing voices and thought the government was out to get him. He later appeared to have no memory of the actual shooting when confronted by police.

Gideon Haigh has written a lengthy exploration of the whole story here: https://www.cricketetal.com/p/midsummer-murder
