My husband applied for a job with GM Motors for a Manufacturing Group Leader- Production. He had his initial interview with HR today and realized he actually submitted a resume from last year and that’s the one they got (he mentioned to submit this year’s). The HR rep liked him and said she’d forward him along to the hiring managers but there is NO relocation allowance.

This is tough considering we’re a family with 4 small children moving across the country.

My husband attended a service academy, served 4 years after (med-board), did 2 years at a gist supply company as a call-center supervisor and now has been at another car manufacturer as a production assistant (he’s turned down several promotions due to the pay not being there). Should he have applied somewhere else in GM? He is extremely intelligent. I don’t want him to short sell himself.

We also really NEED the relocation allowance to facilitate this move. At what level does that come into play? Can that be negotiated at the next interview with the Managers?
