Mein altes Auto mit Automatik, das ich seit 2011 recht regelmäßig und weit fahre, hat einen Drehzahlmesser. Das erste Auto in meinem Leben das mit beidem ausgestattet ist.
Das hat schon vor Langem eine Gedankenübung in Gang gesetzt:
Wenn ich es schaffen würde, über eine lange Strecke die Drehzahl strikt bei zum Beispiel 2500 U/min zu halten, und dann dieselbe Strecke "normal" fahren würde, würde der Verbrauch deutlich anders ausfallen?
Würde ausserdem bei einer Strecke mit viel Gefälle und Anstiegen der Verbrauch kleiner sein wenn ich auch hier zumindest versuchen würde die Drehzahl immer gleich zu halten?
Mich interessiert also ob und wie das Beschleunigen des Gewichtes und - was letztlich ja nachweisbar ist - das Hochjagen der Motordrehzahl den (Mehr-) Verbrauch ausmacht oder ob es andere maßgebliche Faktoren (Windwiderstand) gibt.
I had to replace the kick starter spring and took the opportunity to clean and grease what I could get my hands on.
Reassemble was not as straightforward as expected. But after reading everything supplied by Hitchcocks (old magazine articles, very comprehensive!) and watching a few videos (in Tamil, English, Dutch and German) I managed.
I had the feeling that I knew enough by then to correct a flaw:
UPshifting (1 to 4) was way more difficult - noise, neutrals, hard to engage - than DOWNshifting (4 to 1).
Finally, I dared to loosen the adjuster plate (yellow arrow) but could not improve that. It did not worsen, but no matter how I set the plate, above effect persisted.
Hence my questions:
1 - Is the adjuster plate indeed the only means to adjust anything?
2 - Does it matter that the inner gear lever (green) seems to touch the casting/lid when actuated upwards (which is UPshift, green arrow). To the other/down side it has unlimited travel/space.
3 - Can I check whether the operator shaft (blue arrow) is misaligned? Could I check whether its square should be more level or inclined? That would, of course, have influence on the setting of the green lever.
4 - Do the ratchet teeth look excessively worn?
5 - Can there be another reason for above effect?

Gerade bin ich an meinem Oldtimermotorrad mit viel Geduld - nicht meine Stärke! - und Spucke einem Problem auf die Schliche gekommen. Am Getriebe. Einer Baugruppe von der ich GAR keine Ahnung habe! Ich habe nie gelernt stolz auf mich zu sein. Manchmal, in solchen Momenten, bin ich es.
Dabei habe ich festgestellt dass ich ungefähr wie mein 2023 verstorbener Vater vorgegangen bin.
Er konnte Alles. Und hat sich in Alles was ihn interessiert hat - was eigentlich auch "Alles" war 😄 - hineingefuchst. Mit unendlicher Geduld, seinem tollen technischen Verständnis und der Erfahrung von jahrzehntelangem reparieren von "Allem".
Immer wenn ich etwas sehe was (technisch) interessant ist möchte ich ihm das zeigen oder erzählen, mit ihm diskutieren und ihn befragen. Er wusste ja auch Alles... .
Unser Verhältnis war nicht so gut. Aber ich vermisse ihn oft und bin ihm doch oft Nahe. Öfter als ich es erwartet habe.

My 1969 Royal Enfield Interceptor Mkll.
I've dreamed about this one for 30-odd years.
In February last year I did it. Bought it from a mate that bought it from eBay Canada in 2009 and brought it to Germany. (I hated him then! 😬) He has worked on it extensively but never had it registered.
It still has issues and I have refrained from giving it back it's original look that I crave (head light brackets, need those from staring at the original sales brochure for years, and I HATE the current blinkers!) as I have to work on many unexpected flaws first.
The parts situation is ... challenging, and the more specific the knowledge required is, the harder it is to obtain.
It is said that about 1000 were made, and they almost all were sold in the US or Northern America. In the 30 years that I longed and looked, almost no bikes showed up in the UK, and even less "on the continent". Most were priced way higher than any other British bike that is about the same 70s era, 750 cc range and "roadster" sphere.
(I usually hate "US spec" handlebars and tanks on most bikes. On this one it looked right from first glance at pics in a book).
I hate it. I LOVE it! It's my first British bike, everything is different about it and sometimes I wish I'd have dreamed of something non-British! 😥😂

Ich war immer an seltsamen Sachen interessiert und bin nur aus Neugier Krankenpfleger geworden. Ich war in "Körperwelten" und schaue gerne Horrorfilme. Ich hatte einen photographischen anatomischen Atlas und sehe mir alles an was ich an Fotos von Unfällen, Suiziden und Tötungen finden kann.
(Naja FAST alles! Wenn es um neuzeitliche bewegte Bilder von Folter oder Exekution in der Realität geht kann ich mir das nicht ansehen. Die Grenze ist fliessend und stabil! 🤔)
Ich habe eine Ausbildung zum Trauerredner gemacht, würde aber lieber bei einem Bestatter arbeiten.
Schon ewig, gerade aber nach dem Tod meines Vaters 2023 und mit fast 60 denke ich oft über den Tod nach. Und über das Sterben. Beides ist in unserer Gesellschaft ja weitgehend tabu oder wenigstens stark verdeckt.
Wie geht es euch mit dem Thema? Für wie pervers haltet ihr mich? Trennt ihr Schmerz, Sterben und Tod oder reflektiert ihr darüber?

It is, of course, nearly impossible to show everything. And as this was a chance encounter and I didn't want to interfere these are merely snapshots.

Never mind the audio. It's mostly the dry clutch, and even that is in atrocious quality, sorry. I came by to have something welded and stumbled upon one of the first attempts to figure out the double Weber setup.
The blower (from a modern Mini Cooper) was on blow-by to get any basic reading.
Anything welded, stainless and non-standard was handmade by the owner - I promised not to give out his name, let's keep it at "W"... - who is planning to take this to Bonneville and race it as soon as there is a class established that allows his wife on the passenger seat.
The better part of the frame is, as are the swingarm and most of the "bodywork" and accessories, from a Z1000. W. himself has modified the frame to a vintage Muench racing spec that makes it about 8 cm longer than that original spec in order to make room for the blower.
It does have a German registration. You have to let that sink in. I knew a lot is still possible with old(er) bikes, but this thing getting road legality still makes my jaw drop.
This is only remotely connected to actual WWII- or any other airplanes. Yet it got to me not only for its subject matter, which is reincarnation, but also for the theme of a US pilot killed at Iwo Jima, seemingly reincarnated in a child.
I found the entire mini series extremely matter-of-fact (if that is at all possible), fascinating and thought provoking.

Is this more of an American thing or is "auto" used elsewhere too? When does one say one or the other?
Ich habe gerade mit jemandem telefoniert der mir eine Wohnung vermittelt, und wir haben haben ein Stündchen über Gott und die Welt gesprochen. Ein etwas schräger Vogel, aber ich werde ja nicht so viel mit ihm zu tun haben. Ich soll mich melden wenn ich Interesse habe.
Die Wohnung ist an einer Stelle die ich mir besser kaum malen könnte. Die Umstände (Vermieter, Lage, Preis....) sind ideal in vielerlei Hinsicht.
Die Gesamtsituation ist Alles in Allem besonders.
- es gibt ein Adoptivkind auf dem Bauernhof, also kommt das Jugendamt regelmäßig. Da ich ja in der (Jugend-) Psychiatrie und in aufsuchender Jugendbetreuung gearbeitet habe kenne ich das.
- Es gibt einen freundlichen Hund, und da ich mir nie einen Hund "zulegen" würde, die Kontakte aber mag, finde ich das einfach schön.

- Ich komme in mein Heimatdorf.
- In die Nähe von mehreren Motorradschraubern die ich kenne.
- Es gibt bestimmt im näheren Umkreis Platz für meine Motorräder.... .
Ich hatte, wie das meine Art ist, nur drei oder vier Leuten erzählt dass ich eine Wohnung suche. Eine davon hat mir diesen Kontakt hergestellt.
Ich kann kaum glauben wie sich das entwickelt hat.
Und egal was daraus wird: es ist schwer zu ertragen dass ich wieder so viel Glück habe wenn es vielen Menschen schlecht geht.
Aber meine Freude darüber möchte ich mit euch teilen!

I also chose to leave the Arkenthing on the bike to at least have some sort of "guarantee" to have the dash on when I want to ride. Works most times...
Yesterday I had a great ride that spawned questions, and I have to admit that I'm so glad to know this sub!
I am ashamed to ask on the other hand...
To the point:
1- Is there any possibility to set the bike to NOT go to "Neutral" automatically? Some very annoying situations when it didn't switch to a ride mode in traffic.
2 - Can I stop "maps download completed" to show constantly? Maybe even strip the "phone" from anything NON-dashboard?
3 - Sorry for this one but I refrained from trying to set ANYTHING a long time ago: How/where/on what display do I find the ride mode settings? Is it "Advanced"? Does the Arkenthing need to be hooked to the bike OR THE WEBSITE or both?

Gestern habe ich mich aufgerafft.
Ich habe die komplette Ausrüstung angezogen und bin mit meiner Elektroenduro zu einem Motorradcafe gefahren.
Klar kam ich mir ein bisschen doof vor, aber ich kenne mich. Oft genug fahre ich spontan auf einen Feldweg oder in den Wald (... ja, ich weiss....) ohne angemessene Schutzkleidung.
Im Cafe habe ich Geld ausgegeben das ich wohl hätte sparen sollen. Ich habe mich mit Leuten unterhalten wie ich es schon länger nicht mehr getan habe.
Auf dem Rückweg konnte ich der ständig lauernden Versuchung nicht mehr widerstehen und bin auf einen Feldweg abgebogen den ich kenne.
Neben dem Weg ist eine Landwehr auf deren höchstem Grat ein sehr schmaler, kurviger Pfad eingetreten ist.
Ich bin lange nicht mehr im Gelände gefahren, bin fast 60 und so schlecht in Form wie schon seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr (Scheidung, Mutter, Arbeit, Gesundheit .....).
Trotzdem hab ich mehr Kilometer (Naja, vielleicht zwei?) auf dem Grat zurückgelegt als ich vorhatte.
Auf der Mitte musste ich mich entscheiden ob ich auf dem ab jetzt unbekannten Grat bleibe oder einen bekannten Feldweg nehme. Ich bin oben geblieben.
Ein Moment reicht, und natürlich bin ich "plötzlich" erstaunlich tief von der Landwehr gekippt. Der Lenker des Mopeds hat sich in die Erde gebohrt, und es lag fast kopfüber. Maximal ungünstig.... .
Ich habe, entgegen meiner sonst durchgehend hektischen Art, Helm, Rucksack und Handschuhe ausgezogen, einen Schluck aus der Wasserflasche genommen und durchgeatmet. Dann habe ich ungewöhnlich schlau und überlegt das Motorrad aufgehoben. Das war schwerer als angenommen obwohl das Ding nicht schwer ist, und ich bin weiter gefahren.
Die Gabel war verzogen und ich konnte nicht mehr gerade sitzen.... .
Es gab noch ein paar dicke querliegende Bäume die ich umfahren musste. Auch das kostete mehr Kraft als ich erwartet hatte, und ich war klatschnass geschwitzt und dreckig. Zu Hause, nach dem Duschen, ging es mir besser.
Heute merke ich was mir alles weh tut. Ich fühle mich alt und bin mir fast sicher dass ich wohl doch nie mehr eine Enduroveranstaltung mitfahren werde, was ich schon ewig mal machen möchte.
Aber dieser kleine Ausflug hat mir gezeigt was ich gerne tue und wofür ich letztes Jahr erschreckend viel Geld ausgegeben habe um meinen Mitmenschen in der Natur wenigstens elektrisch-leise zu begenen.
Ich mache mir wenig Hoffnung, aber "hätte ich doch gefragt" Ist vielleicht das Dämlichste was passieren kann.
Ich habe einen guten gebrauchten Kabelbaum für mein Moped gefunden. Natürlich werde ich ihn aufarbeiten, aber was ich mich schon ewig frage:
Gibt es eine Chemikalie mit der ich die einzelnen Steckerchen effektiv von Schmutz und vielleicht sogar Oxidation befreien kann?
Eine Drahtbürste kommt ja nicht überall hin....
